Someone from New Jersey with the username luxor has created a listing on Rent a Coder to build a clone of Prosper.com using PHP and MYSQL.
The bidding started on June 26th. Although the bid request was open until July 10th it looks like the requester has already selected someone to complete the project. A total of five people bid on the project and requested payment between $108-$3,500. Luxor selected Hiren Kotadiya from India to complete the project for $250. He will be expected to create a "working, stripped-down version of prosper.com" by July 27th for $250. If he is successful, I think that luxor is getting quite the deal. Is this going to be a Prosper competitor or is the buyer looking to create a different site with similar functionality?

good catch, have you contacted luxor to ask him? curious myself what can be created on that budget :)
Good idea - I should follow up on that. However, if he is working on a competitor to Prosper I doubt he'll want to talk.
It looks like messaging is limited to the buyer and coder once the bid has been accepted. Contacting him through RentACoder may be difficult.
i think for so small amount can be done only patch
you get what you pay for
there are many from india who promise anything for $100, exelent example is rentacoder site and rentacoder staff...
I'm a freelancer with lots of online experience and I always welcome online work. I've tried both RAC and Odesk but I've never got work on Odesk yet. RAC is definitely has ups and downs but you can find projects there with a lot of patience. Yeah there are many buyers there sometimes with unrealistic projects but it's a bit hard to resist because some of the coders simply work cheap.
"you get what you pay for"
Overpay today, become bankrupted patriot tomorrow.
Hi...
Myself Hiren Kotadiya (developer of this prosper clone project)...
I have successfully completed this project as per client's requirements.
Hiren,
Thanks for commenting on this post. Considering this project started a year ago I hope you got paid more than $250 for it. Did you?
I got paid $250...
Hiren,
Send me an email at prosperlending@gmail.com. I'd love to talk to you about this.
Tom
Hiren,
I am interested in discussing this prosper clone as well. Please email me at john.abbott@rogers.com
Hiren, I noticed from comments at GetAFreelancer.com that you created at least two Prosper clones - Give Some Aloha and eAlms. Have you created any more since? I'd love to talk to you about the development experience.
Hiren, another note - I see the customer was quite happy with your work. This is his rating -
"Thorough, careful coder. Produced exactly to specs. Great experience!"
He wrote the comment on December 15, 2007 - three months after the auction closed. That was pretty quick development.
Hiren
Im interested in your project demo listed in post- can you email direct to review if you have ready to go turn key script?
thanks - Terry@nusani.com
